This is a rare colour picture of Ben Butchers House at 9 Lower Bristol Road, It stood close to the Old Bridge.
The council demolished it as it was wanted for road improvements in the 70s.
Ben who was a Sniper at the Somme in 1916 and claimed to be the oldest living jockey.
While he sat tight defying the bulldozers, he painted scenes of his life all over the front of his house.
He died in hospital in June 1973 aged 84.
